Time, Love, Memory 3 key ideas

The first key point i see is the behavior on animals. Kinesis is the movement without having a reaction to, while taxis is a response to a stimulus. They conduced experiments involving flies, to see if they the movement to light was a taxis or kinesis movement. They were also placed in tubes that were like the fanpipes in the book. This relates to our ecology chapter because for the lab we have done, we tested if their movement to different environments were taxis or kinesis


The second key point in the book Time, Love, Memory is the fly structure they have studied. Structure is one of the key points in biology as it is one of our umbrella terms that was studied in the beginning of the semester. They looked at various part of the flies structure like wings, body shape, eye color, etc and they studied the genetic inheritance of certain traits with the help of fruit flies. They chose the fruit flies because they can study the generations in a short time span versus studying on humans which we have long lifetimes. They also looked into factors that determined if they are capable of reproducing to show results.

 The last key point is the chaining of fruit flies that was studied. It is said that at certain temperatures and adequate food, the flies would start chaining with another. This type of behavior shows that they act differently when the flies are at its best. The environment is controlled, and also adequate food. This allows the reproduction rate to bloom because there would be no factors that may weaken the rate of reproduction, which is key.
