These 3 kind of plants are very similar and have the same kind of functions. C3 plants have the same location of where the calvin benson cycle and the light dependent occur. However, CAM and c4 plants, the difference between those two is the location of where carbon fixation takes place. C4 plants can, at the same time go through the calvin benson and light dependent reactions in different spots like in the mesophyll cells. C3 and C4 plants have their stomata opened up during the day and CAM plants have their stomata only open at night. In C4 , carbon dioxide is drawn out of malate and into this reaction rather than directly from the air and the C4 pathway is more energy-consuming than the C3 pathway. The C3 pathway requires only 18 ATP for the synthesis of one molecule of glucose while the C4 pathway requires 30 ATP.
